The government is set to add 400,000 new Bangla words in Google Translate, a free online language translation service, on the
Independence Day, aiming to enrich Bangla language.
“We are going to create a new record by contributing four lakh Bangla
words to the Google Translate on the Independence Day and we urge all
Bangla speaking people living around the world to join our endeavors to
fulfill the target,” State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak
told a press conference.
The ICT Division and Google Developer’s Group-Bangla(GDG-Bangla) jointly organised the press conference at the ICT Division on Friday.
Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) SM Ashraful
Islam, joint secretary of ICT Division Susanta Kumar Saha and General
Secretary of Bangladesh Open Source Network Munir Hasan, among others,
addressed the press meet.
Palak said: “Bangla word vocabulary in the Google Translate is not
satisfactory. That is why, the ICT Division and GDG-Bangla jointly are
taking initiatives to add four lakh Bangla words to enrich Bangla word
vocabulary in the Google Translate.”
The initiative to add Bangla words to the Google Translate would remove inadequacy of Bangla content, he added.
Palak said over 50 events would be held in different locations
including universities, where people will contribute to the Google
Translate by adding Bangla words.
On that day, volunteers would extend their help Bangla speaking
people in different countries including Australia, UK, USA and Portugal
to contribute the efforts, the Palak also added.
